Designer couches, Hallowe'en costumes and pet massage treatments are just a few of the suggestions she offers for imaginative entrepreneurs wanting to get into the pet industry boom.
And is it ever booming. There are pets in 64.2 million US homes now and a study released by MarketResearch.com predicts that the pet care and pet supplies industries will reach an $8 billion market by 2007.
The main point of Campbell's article, though, is that more and more of us are treating pets like people and willing to spend the same amount of dollars on them that we would on any family member. This looks like a very good time to create a business that caters to the needs of pampered pets.
