Small Business Week Is Coming
Friday October 17, 2003
Next week (October 19 to 25) is officially Small Business Week in Canada!
Organized by the Business Development Bank of Canada (BDC) and endorsed by the Canadian Chamber of Commerce, Small Business Week is devoted to recognizing the contributions of small business to the Canadian economy and celebrating the achievements of individual small business people across the country.
The theme of this year's celebrations is "YOU'RE THE POWER behind the Canadian economy, let's share the energy!" (A long slogan, but I think you get the point.)
The national launch of Small Business Week this year is being held in Halifax. But there are a host of events being held across Canada. Here's a list of events from the BDC web site; just click on your province. And you can always check with your Chamber of Commerce to see what's happening locally - awards dinners, conferences, trade fairs, seminars, workshops, luncheons - there are so many events to choose from.
The BDC will once again be presenting their Young Entrepreneur Awards, and this year, for the first time, they're also presenting an Ongoing Achievement Award to one of the past winners of the Young Entrepreneur Award whose company has shown sustained growth. Read more about both these awards here.
The BDC should be commended for their continuing support of small business and their ongoing efforts to organize Small Business Week. But Small Business Week wouldn't happen if it wasn't for you and what you do all year. I hope you make the chance to go to something this coming week to celebrate being a part of small business in Canada. And congratulations to those of you receiving awards and kudos this year!
