Not only have many people heard of it, but they have very definitive views as you'll see in this long Forum thread. Read and take part in the Quixtar/Amway debate by clicking on the title link.
If you're considering MLM yourself, you'll definitely want to read "Is It MLM or a Pyramid Scheme?", as legitimate MLM businesses and pyramid schemes can appear to be quite similar.

Quixtar can be a legitimate business if you retail products and get the bonuses. The reason so many people lose money is because they subscribe to the teaching system. The teaching system is expensive and will usually eat up whatever profits you get from retailing.

There’s a lot of info here:

The Quixtar business is what you make it, Quixtar.com does not teach you how to build the business, they do pay you for your effort’s but there are different teams that teach you how to build your business, books and CD’s are optional not manitory. It will work for anyone who wants to work it and listen to their mentor.

It is NOT a Pyramid Scheme and especially NOT an illegal one, obviously. Let me explain in just a few sentences WHY this isn’t a pyramid scheme. Everyone knows in a pyramid the upper most position, most likely the CEO, makes most of the money, Right? Well, that is NOT what our business through Quixtar uses. It may seem like a pyramid but it is not, because the person that “referred” you is never ON top of you other than to help you in whatever you need help in. Thats it, they are just your “mentors”. So, He/she can referr you, He/she has started before you, but that doesn’t mean he/she will always make more money than you. He/she can be lazy, but you can be more of a hard worker – you will get more money than that person who referred you. Quixtar is Legit and its all about how you make of it.

Quixtar is legal pyramid. The guys on the top do make most of the money. Sure, the entry level IBO’s can make more than their
sponsor but do yu see any IBO’s making more than Yager or Britt? Nope.

With the high prices for generic products, it’s very difficult to sell product and with the bad nam ereputation, it’s hard to get people to see the plan without using soe deception.

Part right, but mostly wrong!
The only true part is when you say that you can make more money than your sponsor.
If this is possible and it is, you can also make more than their sponsor, and their sponsor, and their sponsor and you could make more than Britt or Yager. The Yager have been buiding this for 40 years !!! But you could get in today, build 25 legs to the Diamond level and above which would give you 75 FAA Points (the Yager are at 60) and you would earn more than they do… even if you’re in their group. In fact, Dexter would be the 1st one to tell you that with today’s technology, he doesn’t understand why no one has past him yet.

Yes, you might be able to surpass your sponsor, but you ain;t gonna knock a pharoah like dexter off of the pyramid.

Quixtar (or Amway) is the grandfather of MLM (or Direct Selling, Network Marketing..etc).

In Singapore, it is the first few that were approved by the Singapore Government after tedious evaluation. Amway was set up in 2002 in Singapore. I believe it has a longer history in US (49 years) and more than 40years in Canada…:-)
