Hallowe'en Retail Statistics

Spending projections make Hallowe'en a hot retail event. According to a new study conducted by Ipsos-Reid on behalf of Retail Council of Canada, 81% of Canadians will be spending money on Halloween this year, and they plan to spend an average of $57 each on items such as candy, pumpkins, decorations and costumes.
"Consumers will spend a total of approximately $1.1 billion on Halloween this year," says Diane J. Brisebois, President and CEO, Retail Council of Canada.
Who spends the most? Quebecers, leading the average anticipated personal spending at $63.43, closely followed by Atlantic Canadians at $59.72, $57.34 in Ontario, $54 in Alberta, $52.13 in B.C., and $46.04 in Saskatchewan/Manitoba.
What are most consumers buying? You guessed it; 74% of Canadians plan to buy candy and/or other treats, followed by pumpkins at 46%. Interestingly, only 24% of Canadians plan to buy a costume or costumes.
