You Really Only Have Until April 30th for Income Tax
Tuesday April 8, 2008
One thing I've never understood about income tax is that self-employed individuals (and their spouses) have until June 15th to file their income tax but they still only have until April 30th to pay whatever income tax they owe. I mean, if you don't have your income tax papers together and your calculations done, how will you know how much you have to pay?
Regardless, even if you don't get your income tax return completed by the April 30th deadline, it's worth your while to make a "guesstimate" and pay what you think you're owing by that date to avoid late payment penalties.
If you're still working on your own taxes, using income tax preparation software can be a real advantage because tax software approved by the Canada Revenue Agency is designed to facilitate filing options such as Efiling and Netfiling (Efiling for individuals). The Canada Revenue Agency also provides Telefile services, which allow you to file tax returns using a touch-tone phone.
