In 7 Advantages of Using an iPad POS System I mentioned ShopKeep as an example of an iPad point of sale system that Canadian small businesses could use.
Now there's another player entering the Canadian market; Intuit Inc. is launching GoPayment in Canada.
The GoPayment system consists of a newly developed card reader that attaches to the audio jack of iOS and Android devices and an app, both of which are free. Users pay per swipe. (Currently the fee listed on the website is 2.7%.)
From Intuit Inc.'s press release:
In Canada, GoPayment will initially be compatible with iPhone, iPad and iPod touch devices. Intuit will be first to market with mobile payments that require no start-up or equipment costs, no long-term contracts and no monthly fees. Users simply pay a small fee per transaction. Small business owners who are interested in learning more about GoPayment, including how it works, the benefits for their business and specific information around availability, can receive updates at GoPayment.ca.
This kind of mobile payment system is, as Intuit Inc. advertises, ideal for small businesses with low volume and/or small business service providers on the go, such as tradespeople, professionals and home-based businesses, so let's hope it launches soon!
