If you've been thinking of starting an ecommerce business, Shopify's Build-A-Business Contest is a great opportunity for you.
"Come up with a product to sell, open your online store and pick a mentor. Our community and your mentor will give you great advice and guidance along the way. The Canadian store that sells the most over a two month period will win meetings with all four mentors in New York City" (Shopify website).
So just by entering the contest and starting the store, you get a mentor, and as anyone who's ever had one will tell you, that's one huge help when you're starting a business.
And the mentors are, as the billing says, world-class entrepreneurs - Daymond John, who created the FUBU fashion brand, Eric Ries, the author of The Lean Startup, Tina Roth Eisenberg, creator of swissmiss, and Tim Ferris, author of The 4-Hour Workweek. Talk about an entrepreneurial dream team.
Besides the VIP trip to New York City, the winner will also receive a Fast Company website feature and a $20,000 Google AdWords Credit.
Competition registration runs from July 10th to December 31st, 2012, but you can sign up any time. (Note that the contest is only open to Canadians.) After you register, only complete calendar months between August 1, 2012 and February 28, 2013 will be used in the calculation of Gross Sales.
