Telus Corp. and The Globe and Mail have joined forces to present The Challenge, the fourth annual contest inviting Canadian small business owners to present their biggest business challenge for the opportunity to win a $100,000 grant from Telus Corp. and have their small business featured in The Globe and Mail.

To enter, you need to be the owner of a Canadian small business with less than 150 employees not located in Quebec and write a mini-essay (800 word submission) describing:

  • A challenge your business is currently experiencing (200 words);
  • A proposed solution to this challenge and how the $100,000 prize would help overcome that challenge (200 words);
  • An explanation of the results you expect to achieve (200 words);
  • A description of how your business incorporates the following values into their business: 1) community investment/commitment to charities, 2) putting customers first and 3) innovation (200 words).

Entries will be judged by a panel that includes entrepreneurs and small business experts.

Last year, more than 1,200 Canadian small business owners entered the contest.

The 2013 winner, Livestock Water Recycling Inc., of Calgary, Alberta, was able to put in a commercial-grade lab to treat hog and cow manure, so they'll now be able to export livestock manure around the world.

Contest deadline is May 26, 2014.
