What is RSS and should I bother with it?

By Susan Ward, About.com

Question: What is RSS and should I bother with it?
Answer:

RSS stands for Rich Site Summary, or Really Simple Syndication. It's an XML-based format designed to syndicate content.

In terms of your business blog, what happens is that your blog headlines and/or blog posts become an RSS feed. Most blog software programs and/or web-based blogging applications make it easy for you to create an RSS feed. Once you have an RSS feed, your content can be easily shared with other sites and be listed in RSS feed directories.

Besides making sharing your content with other sites "really simple", people who use news aggregators can have your content delivered right to their desktops. It's hard to think of a better way to let potential customers know about your latest offer or product.

The bottom line about RSS is that it can mean more traffic for your site. So if your business blog is frequently updated, you should definitely "bother" with RSS, and be sure you have an RSS feed.
