"One individual at a time." That's Monique Howat's approach to overcoming the challenges she faces running Confident Girls!

The unique nature of her business was the first challenge she had to meet. "The program I offer is so new and different, there is no point of reference as there would be for people who are looking for books, fitness centres, or grocery stores. When it comes to confidence building, most people draw a blank."

While Monique's business has a Web site, it hasn't been a very effective sales tool. "Unless a Web site can be on the first page of the search engines, I don't believe it will be of much use, other than telling someone who asks."

But Monique overcame the problem of marketing Confident Girls! with patience and a trust that the news about the good work she's doing would spread by word-of-mouth. And it has; Monique has received curious calls from all over the United States and Canada, from Respite Associations, Children's Aid, teachers, principals, and parents.

"I believe that every time one person communicates in any way with another, it is networking. I've always shown a keen interest in people; I try to make each person I come in contact with feel that they are important," says Monique.

Monique plans to market the Confident Girls! workbook on an international scale this year, and her Confident Teens! workbook will be released in September 2002.

"One individual at a time, one sentence, one laugh, and one word at a time. I believe in these girls and offer them the means to believe in themselves with all the enthusiasm I can muster."
