MailWorkZ is a site with excellent face-to-face, a Web site where potential customers will feel comfortable and secure, because the site is designed to welcome them, not just their purchase. And the MailWorkZ site gives potential customers the feeling that they're not just buying a product from the company, but forming a relationship. 

So what do you need to do to be a successful e-commerce entrepreneur?

1. Have a great product. (Broadc@st was awarded 5 stars in a review by ZDNet.)

2. Prepare and follow a business model that makes the customer as important as the product. 

3. Do what you have to do, such as designing a Web site around the customer's needs and hiring enough staff, to ensure that the customer knows he or she is as important as the product.

What advice would Karen give to a person who wanted to start an e-commerce business now? "Traffic to your site is absolutely key. You must start aggressively and quickly positioning your site in search engines, ezines, and forums. And from the beginning, offer community options to keep people on your site, such as newsletters, tell-a-friend, contests, and great content."

On a monthly basis, MailWorkZ sales have increased 300 percent over those of the old company. The company's revenue growth target for 2001 is 300 percent, a goal MailWorkZ plans to achieve by increasing brand awareness, driving additional traffic to the Web site, additional marketing efforts, and by hiring additional sales staff. Karen says that the biggest challenge  her business faces today is maintaining the positive work environment at MailWorkZ as the company is in an expansion mode and hiring new staff. Now there's a problem more of us would like to have! E-commerce success is still possible, even in times when so many dot.coms have become dot.bombs, if you concentrate on the customer as well as the product.
