B.C. Small Business Events in October
The October events kick off with a pair of E-Business Basics workshops.
Sponsored by Western Economic Diversification, the workshop is designed to prepare
you to get your own online business up and running. Topics covered include
building your eBusiness, finding clients and competitors,
shipping issues, e-commerce and merchant accounts, and marketing your site.
The E-Business Basics workshop runs in Valemont, October 3, 1:30 p.m. to 4:30 p.m.,
and in Vancouver October 17, 10 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. at the Canada/BC Business Service

On October 10, Canadian Business for Social Responsibility presents
the Green Venture Forum at the Wall Centre
(1088 Burrard St., Vancouver). Also sponsored by Western Economic Diversification,
this one-day event for green business owners, entrepreneurs,
investors, and advisors gives business owners the chance to learn the ins and outs of

The Homes, Hobbies & Horsepower Trade Show is October 19 through 21 at

October 19 and 20 is also when "From Pieces to Prosperity: An Autumn Conference for Women" runs
at Malaspina University College in Nanaimo. These two days of
workshops and speakers include keynote speaker Teresa Pippus (seminar leader
for the Fish! Philosophy, an innovative method of teambuilding that originated
at the Pike Street Market). Appointments are available with specialist in
accounting, retail, and computer software, and WESBC experts will be available

And the 2001 BC Youth
Entrepreneurship Conference is October 23 through
October 25 in Nanaimo. Subtitled Excelling In The New Economy, this conference
aims to show both youth and service providers the skills they need to excel
in today's economy. The keynote speaker is Peter van
Stolk, "an outstanding example of someone who started his own business as a
youth and went on to take North America by storm." Click on the link above to

The Accessing Self-Employment conference for entrepreneurs with disabilities is
October 31 and November 1 at the Holiday Inn at 3020 Blanshard Street in Victoria.
Put on by the Victoria Disabilities Resource
Centre and sponsored by Western Economic Diversification, the conference features
keynotes, workshops and a tradeshow, and is geared to those interested in starting
or enhancing their own businesses. Cost is $49 plus GST for people with disabilities.
