Saskatchewan Small Business Events in October

Billed as the biggest and best trade show in the province, Business Expo 2001 is October 22 and 23 in Saskatoon. Presented by the Saskatoon and District Chamber of Commerce, the show features The Corporate Retreat and Technology for Business Success, and includes lots of opportunities for business people in and around Saskatoon to meet potential clients, suppliers, and buyers. The Trade Show runs from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. each day.

October 21 through 27 is the New Rural Economy: From Challenges to Action - 2001 CRRF Conference in Muenster, Saskatchewan. You can download a conference brochure from the Web site linked in the last sentence, or contact the Carlton Trail Regional Economic Development Authority at (306) 682-2631 or the Centre for Rural Studies and Enrichment at (306) 682-1759. The registration deadline is October 10.

Meanwhile, the Regina Centre of Business Development presents "How To Promote Your Business" on October 24 from 1 p.m. to 4 p.m. This free seminar "covers the basic tools every business owner needs to identify, plan and implement a successful promotional strategy."

When you visit the Regina Centre of Business Development's Web site, you'll also find many other seminars offered here, such as "Developing a Marketing Plan" and "An Introduction to Bookkeeping" for a modest fee. Dates run through October and November.

Manitoba Small Business Events in October

Interested in starting your own business? The Business Start Program (organized by Manitoba Industry, Trade and Mines) starts October 22 in Brandon. This free three day workshop covers business planning, legal requirements, bookkeeping, marketing and business management, and runs 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. each day. Manitoba Marketing Network Inc. also meets in in Brandon, on October 24. Learn about sales and marketing, advertising and promotion, and customer service, and participate in e-commerce forums in this pair of seminars running from 6:00 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. Cost is $35 for 2 sessions; you must pre-register by October 19. If you're involved in agriculture, you'll definitely want to attend the Ag Diversification: Marketing Beyond the Obvious seminar in Brandon October 27, where "speakers will share their insights and involvement with a variety of enterprises and the marketing techniques they've used to improve the bottom line." The cost of this seminar, organized by Manitoba Agriculture and Food, is $15 (which includes lunch). Pre-registration is required by October 23. Western Economic Diversification is sponsoring a pair of workshops on customer service in Winnipeg. Service Moment by Moment Part 1 is October 22, from 5:00 p.m. - 8:00 p.m., and Service Moment by Moment Part 2 is October 29, from 5:00 p.m. - 8:00 p.m. Both of these seminars focus on building customer relationships, with an emphasis on dealing with difficult situations.
