Part
1: The Theme Of Canadian Small Business Week
by Susan Ward
Canadian Small Business Week is October 20 through 26. Started as a small event in BC in 1979, Small Business Week has grown to a Canada-wide celebration of entrepreneurship, organized by the Business Development Bank of Canada (BDC) and endorsed by the Canadian Chamber of Commerce. The theme of Canadian Small
Business Week 2002 is "You Have Genius. Let's Bank On It Now!" The BDC
chose this theme in an attempt to focus on the genius of every entrepreneur
who's taken an idea and developed it into a successful business. The second part
of the theme was chosen to emphasize the importance of recognizing the
innovative ideas of entrepreneurs and supporting promising ideas with financial
and consultative aid.
In the words of the BDC; "There is no shortage of genius in Canada.
Original concepts and creative ideas are fuelling the creation and growth of
small businesses from coast to coast." The many activities packed into this year's Small
Business Week are intended to give Canadian entrepreneurs a chance to meet and
exchange ideas with other business people. Business luncheons, conferences, and
business expos/trade fairs abound, but there are also many seminars and
workshops on everything from aspects of taxation through marketing. My Small Business Events Guide 2002 presents a sampling of small business
events across Canada that celebrate the vision and successful practices of
Canadian small businesses. The Guide is organized from West to East, and events
are listed alphabetically by place within each province. Site links and contact
information are provided where available. This year the Small Business Events
Guide 2002 is also published in Home Business Report magazine. If there's no event listed for your town, that doesn't mean there's nothing going on where you live; this
article is appearing ahead of Small Business Week and new events are
being added all the time. Do give your local Chamber of Commerce or branch of
the BDC a call to find out what's happening where you live and how you can be a
part of celebrating Canadian Small Business - the backbone of our economy! From West to East then: The Small Business Events Guide 2002 is a joint publication of About,
RBC Royal Bank, and Home Business Report. |
