Top 6 PDAs For Business

By Susan Ward, About.com

Surf the 'Net, check your email, record memos to yourself, or listen to favourite MP3 files on your way to a meeting; these PDAs do it all, and have the power to store and run the applications you need to run your business. Here are PDA reviews of the best PDAs for business users. But be warned; using one of these PDAs is like driving a Porsche; the experience spoils your tolerance for lesser-equipped models.

1. palmOne LifeDrive Mobile Manager PDA

What I really like about this palmOne PDA is the space. The 4 GB hard drive gives you the space to carry and store all the files you want. The 320x480 TFT display gives you the space to view files comfortably and you can flip to portrait or landscape modes with the touch of a button. And then there's the built-in voice recorder, built-in Wi-Fi and Bluetooth wireless support and expansion capabilities. If you're looking for a PDA that can do it all, this is it.

2. palmOne Tungsten T5 PDA

palmOne's Tungsten T5 is also a sensible pick for a business PDA. Loaded with power (a 416 MHz Intel Xscale processor) and storage capacity (256 MB), it's also a great PDA for people who need to carry whole files and folders from their desktops on the road. You can even use this PDA like a USB removable drive if you want. There's no built-in voice recorder, but the Tungsten T5 PDA does have built-in Bluetooth technology for wireless access to the 'Net and email.

3. HP iPAQ hx4705 PDA

This PDA is also a powerhouse for the business user, with a 624MHz high performance processor and 192 MB total memory, meaning there's lots of room for storing programs and files and lots of power to run them. The iPAQ hx4705 PDA also offers lots of connectivity, with both Compact Flash Type II (CF) and Secure Digital (SD) slots, and Bluetooth and Wi-Fi capability. But what sells me on this one is the display, a 4.0" transflective TFT VGA 64K color display that's truly bright and crisp.

4. Dell Axim X50v PDA

What makes this PDA special is its dual slots. (It has both integrated CompactFlash Type II and Secure Digital/SDIO Now!/MMC card slots giving it excellent expansion capabilities.) The 624 MHz Intel® XScale processor makes it zippy. If you're looking for a PDA that has the power to handle any business applications and/or documents and integrated Bluetooth and Wi-Fi for wireless connectivity, this PDA is a good choice.

5. HP (Hewlett-Packard) iPAQ rx3715 PDA

If taking and sharing photos is part of your work or play, this is the PDA to choose. The integrated Photosmart 1.3 MP camera and pre-installed HP Image Zone for iPAQs make taking, editing and sharing photos a snap. Plus there are all those features that will make your work easier, including integrated wireless capabilities and Pocket versions of Microsoft software such as Word, Excel and Outlook. The downside? A little less speed and a little less screen.

6. palmOne Tungsten E2 PDA

The Tungsten E2 PDA is the successor to palmOne's popular Tungsten E PDA model - and although it looks similar, there are a lot of improvements that make it an even better deal for business PDA users. The color display is brighter, the processor is faster, there's more memory and the battery life is better (about 6 hours). If you don't want lots of bells and whistles but do want the palmOne OS and applications, this is the bargain PDA on the list.
