Facebook for Business

By , About.com Guide

Definition:

A simple Facebook for business definition: using Facebook to try to create profit for a business.

In terms of Facebook's evolution, Facebook for business was inexorable; Facebook's ever-increasing popularity makes it an open bowl of honey to business types, who are always looking for better, easier ways to build their networks and get the word out about their products and/or services.

Facebook has taken the Facebook for business bull by the horns and welcomes Facebook for business users to create Facebook pages, where business owners can "create a presence that looks and behaves like user profiles to connect and engage with your customers and amplify your voice to their friends" and to create Facebook ads to promote their pages.

This taps into the main Facebook for business use – using Facebook to attempt to connect with potential business customers.

However, this isn't the only way that people are using Facebook for business. People are also using Facebook:

2) to grow their professional networks;

3) to do business, using Facebook applications such as calendars, office and collaboration tools to turn Facebook into a personal desktop and to communicate with/ collaborate with others.

I expect two things to happen as interest in Facebook for business continues to grow; Facebook pages will continue to replace blogs and traditional websites as the "website" of choice for business users and Facebook will expand their attempts to make money off business users.
