Going green saves money. According to Bob Willard, author of The Business Case for Sustainability, integrating sustainability strategies can increase profits up to 38% for large companies and 66% for small- or medium-sized companies over a five-year period (Debbie Lawes, Experts reveal why this recession is a great time to go green, NEBS Small Business News).
The really great thing, Debbie Lawes points out, is that you don't have to spend a lot of money to save money. Picking the low hanging fruit can give you a nice harvest of energy savings. Her suggestions include:
- printing on both sides of paper,
- switching to energy-efficient light bulbs,
- turning down the thermostat and
- shutting off idle office equipment.
Another really easy thing you can do which could save a lot of paper over the course of a year is add a line to all of your email that says, "Does this email really need to be printed?"
All right: your turn: What are your tips for going green in the office? Please add them here.
