Some stats for starters:

"Mobile platforms were responsible for 14.3% of all online shopping traffic on Black Friday, more than doubling the 5.6% of traffic IBM recorded last year. Perhaps even more impressive, sales from mobile devices reached 9.8% of digital retail transactions, tripling the 3.2% of last year" (Online Media Daily).

"Topping the list of most-wanted holiday gifts (this season) are Apple's iPad and iPhone, according to Nielsen. Juniper Research forecasts an explosion of the tablet market through decade's end to 253 million units shipped in 2016 from this year's 55 million" (Retailers Miss Opportunity To Reach Shoppers With Social, Mobile Commerce, Diane Mermigas: On Media.)

These are just two of many statistics I could have posted here.
